Yesterday morning Bob, Shelby and I took off on an impromptu road trip to see some fall foliage. We traveled Rt. 60 (aka Midland Trail) to Kanawha Falls. It was cool, cloudy and a little rainy but was still a nice drive. We stayed at the Glen Ferris Inn which is located along the Kanawha River at the falls. Dinner and breakfast there were great but unfortunately the dining room that sits along the river was closed. Our room however did overlook the falls. We also went to Hawks Nest State Park, The Mystery Hole, and the New River Gorge Bridge. Shelby's favorite part was the Mystery Hole. That old VW in the side of it looks pretty bad now. I guess it will show my age by saying I can remember when that place was new! We would travel by there going to see my aunt and her family in the Lewisburg area but my dad would never stop. I have to say that it is something everyone needs to experience at least once in his or her life!

This is Shelby outside the Glen Ferris Inn. Part of the falls are behind her but you can't really see them in this picture.

This is Cathedral Falls which is near Hawks Nest State Park.

Just a quick pic of some of today's colors at Hawks Nest.

This is the view of the Mystery Hole as seen from Route 60. This is what I remember most about our trips through that area as a child.

Shelby loves to pose. This is in the area where my parents and grandparents used to camp at the falls in the 1960's.
