What Can $42.72 Buy You?

What was supposed to be a quick trip into Walmart turned into an all afternoon ordeal!  It took nearly an hour again just for the cashier to scan my order.  The company has a great idea about doubling the coupons but MUST get a better system in place.  After going through this on Saturday, I knew what to expect and had every item separated and the corresponding coupon with it.  The cashier I had today had no clue how to do the double coupons so I explained how it worked.  She didn't know whether to believe me or not so she got a supervisor who didn't know how to do it either.  The supervisor told me I was wrong but when she checked with the assistant manager, she realized I did know what I was talking about.  Some of the things she was confused about didn't have to do with doubling coupons but just basic Walmart Coupon Policy.  I guess maybe she had better read and print herself a copy like mine!  :-)

My daughter, Shelby, had a cart of items for her kits to take to the homeless shelter.  After all the craziness, I didn't want to confuse anyone anymore so we didn't separate the order after they rang all her things.

She is dying to start putting the kits together but we still need some items.  If anyone has some coupons like the ones we are using to get charity items and would like to send them to us, please email me.  Coupons for items such as toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, etc. that are for 50 and 75 cents seem to work the best since they will double.  Also the coupons that do not exclude trial sizes are great.

My total would have been less but Shelby reminded me once we were there that she was out of Allegra. I had a coupon but didn't have time to check the ads so I could price match.  I am sure someone had it cheaper but....

All of the items below had coupons except for the berries, cheese and Dr. Pepper.  We also purchased some candy without a coupon but a little girl ate that before we got home and took the pictures!  Several of the items were price matched and double coupons to make a great deal.  For example, by  price matching and using a coupon that doubled, each jar of peanut butter was only 16 cents.  The buns were 48 cents,  toothbrushes 25 cents, toothpaste free, deodorant free, etc.

All in all, I think it was a good day couponing!

What Can $35.32 Buy You?

I have been couponing over the past few months.  To be honest, I have used coupons on and off for years but now I am really trying to use them as much as possible.  I have been following some awesome couponing blogs as well as their posts on Facebook.

I have had a few good "scores" but nothing like what I did today.  I am quite proud of what I purchased and for the amount paid.

My local Walmart is one of the stores that began piloting double coupons today.  That along with their price matching made today's trip fun!  I had an awesome cashier. (I even called the store manager and 1-800-walmart to let them know how great she was.)   I was her first coupon customer and what an experience it was for the both of us.  The register system isn't set up to double coupons so the cashiers have to get the coupons first and for each product that she rings up, she must find the coupon and do a price adjustment for the coupon amount on the item and then at the end scan all the coupons again to take the "double" amount off.  That along with price matching on all those items took forever but it was worth it.

Below are some pictures of my purchase.   Quite a few of the coupons doubled to more than the price of the item which made for an overage that helped cover the cost of the other items I purchased.  If you can't tell from the pictures, the purchase included 62 tubes of Crest Toothpaste,  1 pack of Charmin, 1 multi pack of Scott paper towels, 4 Reach dental floss, 3 Suave body wash, 6 boxes of GoGurt, 3 packs of Sargento cheese slices, 1 pound of ham lunchmeat, 2 packs of M&Ms, 2 large boxes of Pop Secert popcorn, 2 packs of Natures Own Bread, several packs of Duracell batteries, several jars and cans of Dole fruit., 10 boxes of band aids, Benadryl stick, and .....you get the idea, all the items are pictured except the bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper I drank at the checkout and on the way home!  I had a coupon for all but 4 of the items pictured!

I am trying to get as many person items such as toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant as I can for free or super cheap as I can.  I plan on taking some to the school where I teach because we often have students in need.  I also plan on making hygiene kits for the homeless.

All of this for $35.32!

One Year and One Day

I just happened to click on my blog.  I can't believe it has been a year and a day since I last blogged.  I had been doing well keeping up with it.  Hopefully I will do better.  Anyway, it seems that this weekend a year ago we went to see MaMaw Hall.  This weekend Bob, Shelby and I went to Weirton, WV to see James Robert and his fiance, Amber.  We had a nice visit.  Had a chance to talk about vacation plans for this summer.  They are hoping to go to the Smoky Mountains with us.  Amber and I are wanting to do the zip lines and the boys go fishing.  Shelby thinks she wants to do zip lines as well but not sure if she will or not!
